Backcreek Country Enterprises is a family owned and run business, specialising in the propagation and cultivation of the Australian native Flannel flower (Actinotus helianthi) for the
cut-flower industry both in Australia and abroad.

We are licensed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and grow all our flowers in a protected environment. Based on a selective breeding program, and through the use of hydroponics, we have some of the biggest blooms, tallest stems and best quality Flannel flowers on the market

Lana Mitchell is the Executive Director and Manager of Backcreek Country Pty Ltd. She was recently given the award of 2010 RIRDC Rural Woman of the Year for NSW based on her cultivation of hydroponically-grown flannel flowers for the cut-flower industry, as well as for her work to build the wildflower industry as a whole. She has been running education campaigns to the floral supply chain to provide information on what wildflowers are available, when, and how to use them in floral design. She is on the Board of WildFlowers Australia and involved in several marketing projects, including administrator the National Floristry Design Competition (a competition that is run annually in all TAFEs and professional floristry schools). Lana is also on the RIRDC Advisory Committee for Wildflowers and Native Plants, the Editor of the Australian Flower Industry Magazine, and on the Management Committee of New Rural Industries Australia.
